They were assigned packets to help them organize their thoughts into three distinct categories: introduction, summary, personal impression/conclusion. They will use their note packets to create a speech and a slideshow about their famous person. In addition, they can create a drawing to represent their famous person. Lastly, they will then present their speech/slideshow/drawing to the class. This is due on Tuesday, September 17.

Description of the project: Students will do research on a Native American region, including the tribes that once lived there. They will do research/take notes during social studies class time. They will use the research/notes to compile a list of 20 facts and then create an art project with this information. Work at home is not required, but they may do so if they choose.
The students will choose ONE of the following geographical regions to research and create a project for:

EXPLORER PERSUASIVE SPEECH
Directions: You must write a persuasive speech to the class, in the character of your explorer, trying to convince people to join your expedition or to at least support you or help pay for your travels. You will write a persuasive speech about one of the following three topics:
1. You need money so you are trying to get people to give you money to pay for the expenses of your trip such as food, clothing, supplies, ships, money to pay people to work for you, etc. You will need to get money from kings or queens, rich people in the community, banks, business owners.
2. You need people to help support you and take care of things while you are away, so you need partners in your expedition who will not travel with you but they will stay at home and run your businesses and take care of your important matters while you are away and be responsible for continuing to raise money and awareness for your travels while you are gone. You will need the support from political people, business people, and religious leaders.
3. You need people to work for you on your travels. You will need men to sail your ships or take care of your animals if you are traveling over land. You will need cooks, doctors, scientists, religious leaders, political representatives, military personnel for protection.
